New post-doc ad!

Applications are invited for a full time Post-doctoral Scholar position in the Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory under the joint supervision of Dr. Katherine Karlsgodt in the UCLA Psychology Department (http://www.karlsgodtlab.psych.ucla.edu) and Dr. Carrie Bearden in the Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior (https://www.semel.ucla.edu/bearden-lab). The research focus is on understanding the neural basis of cognitive deficits in major psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In addition, there is a strong focus on neurodevelopmental changes in healthy adolescents and those with mental illness, particularly as related to cognitive function. To investigate these issues we take a multimodal approach employing diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), task based functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), resting state fMRI, and cognitive testing.

The focus of the post-doctoral position is on developmental psychopathology, in particular, in the development of functional and structural connectivity in adolescents with psychotic and mood disorders. We are particularly interested in researchers who have a strong interest in, and history of research in, neuroimaging of neurodevelopment and/or psychosis. The position will include analysis of existing data sets, particularly the Philadelphia Neurodevelopmental Cohort (PNC), a large-scale study of child and adolescent development that combines imaging, genomics and clinical and cognitive phenotypes (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25840117), as well as new datasets on adolescent psychopathology. The candidate will also be involved with implementation of new projects, and will have strong emphasis on manuscript writing. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and collaborative, and will have demonstrated skills in one or more areas of neuroimaging, including DTI, structural MRI, task based fMRI, and resting fMRI.

Review of applications will begin immediately and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified; the start date is flexible. Applicants must have been granted their doctoral degree by the start of the position. To apply, interested candidates should email a CV, contact information for three individuals who can serve as references, and a cover letter that indicates a brief description of research interests, experience, and goals to Dr. Karlsgodt at karlsgodt@psych.ucla.edu and Dr. Bearden at cbearden@mednet.ucla.edu. Applicants are also welcome to contact Dr. Karlsgodt or Bearden with any questions prior to applying.
